Calem Vintage Port 1985

€34.95
Sold Out
Old, high‑quality vintage port that is still affordable? It is possible with this Calem Vintage Port 1985, supplied in a wooden case. This vintage port is almost 30 years old and you can see it. The port has become much softer after many years in the cellar. The colour is already turning brown and the flavours are very full. You taste ripe red fruit and caramel, and the port has a long, very smooth finish. Before drinking, decant at least 2 hours in advance and stand the bottle upright. This port has sediment, so pouring through a funnel or coffee filter is advisable. After nearly 30 years the cork has softened and may look a bit green at the top. We recommend using a good waiter's knife to uncork; any cork crumbs can be filtered out together with the sediment. Origin: Portugal, Douro. Style: Calem Vintage Port 1985. Producer: Calem. Grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amerena, Tinta Barroca. Storage and serving: This Vintage should be decanted at least 4 hours in advance. Once opened it should be consumed within 2 days. Serve lightly chilled (16–18 °C). Minimum further ageing potential about 10 years lying down; already at its peak. Quantity: 750 ml. Tasting notes: The colour has turned brownish and the flavours are very full. You taste ripe red fruit and caramel, with a long, very smooth finish. Food & spice: Excellent with mature blue cheeses such as Stilton. The soft, buttery texture and gentle character of the cheese are perfectly matched by the powerful, majestic flavours of the Vintage Port. Other soft, buttery, mildly piquant blue cheeses include Cashel Blue, Roquefort, Gorgonzola and Saint Agur Blue.
