New Category: 80 year old port wine
It’s Official: A New Era for Port Wine
The IVDP has officially recognized a new Port category that's been in the works for quite some time. Since the approval of the 50-Year-Old category, momentum has been building — and now, the 80-Year-Old category has finally arrived.
Leading the way, Graham’s has already released a magnificent 80-Year-Old Tawny Port. Crafted for collectors, passionate Port lovers, and the luxury gift market, this exceptional blend celebrates eight decades of aging mastery.
Grahams 80 year old
The bottle has been designed to fit the exclusive market it’s been produced for.
A Legacy in a Glass: 80-Year-Old Aged Tawny Port
Patience, craftsmanship, and time – this remarkable 80-Year-Old Tawny Port captures them all. A true masterpiece, it has spent generations slowly maturing in seasoned oak casks, resulting in a wine of extraordinary elegance and depth.
The Story Behind the Bottle
Crafted by our Head Winemaker and Master Blender, Charles Symington (fourth generation), this exceptional blend was originally created to honor the 80th birthday of his father and mentor, Peter Symington (third generation). Its outstanding quality made it impossible to keep hidden — and so, this limited-edition Port was born.
Tasting Notes
Silky, lush, and endlessly complex, this Tawny reveals layers of rich flavors: soft caramel, vibrant mandarin orange, ripe quince, creamy praline, delicate vanilla, and a touch of butterscotch. The lingering finish brings hints of tobacco and fine black tea, while a subtle acidity keeps the profile fresh, graceful, and perfectly balanced.
How to Serve
Best enjoyed slightly chilled. Once opened, savor its evolving beauty within 8 weeks.
Taylors Product update
Taylors has launched their own 80 year old ‘Victory Port’ this year and it’s a very limited edition of just 1945 bottles, marking the year of the liberation during the second world war.
First 2023 Vintage Port
Taylors also launched their first 2023 Vintage port on April the 21 this year - one of the first houses to declare a vintage port from 2023. Whether it will be a good year has still need to be verified but weather conditions of the past decade have changed and the houses have declared vintages almost every year (not Classic Vintages)
Taylor’s Classic Vintage bottle never goes out of style

From the Winemaker:
“As with the first vintage, Taylor’s Sentinels Vintage Port 2023 has the potential to age gracefully in bottle, with a long life ahead. Yet, it is equally approachable and enjoyable in its youth, offering wine enthusiasts the opportunity to experience the exceptional character of the Pinhão Valley from the very first taste.”
Graham’s has declared a Classic Vintage Port for 2023 - making it the first Classic Vintage year since 2017. We have written a special blog article about the 2023 here
